About Our Keynote

Dr. Jemima Pierre is a leading scholar of African and African Diaspora Studies and a professor at the University of British Columbia. Trained as a sociocultural anthropologist, her work explores the intersections of race, political economy, and imperialism across Africa and the diaspora. She is the author of The Predicament of Blackness: Postcolonial Ghana and the Politics of Race and co-editor of The Anthropology of White Supremacy: A Reader. Originally from Gros Morne, Haiti and raised in Miami, Dr. Pierre brings a global lens to issues of Black liberation, migration, and sovereignty.
